Trip Mathura Vrindavan |
|
A land soaked
in history and mythology, Mathura is the birthplace
of the eighth Avatar of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna.
Brajbhoomi, the land where Shri Krishna was born and
spent his youth, has little towns and villages, which
still resonate with his childhood pranks and youthful
dalliance with the gopis (cowherd girls) in the forests
of Vrindavan. Mathura lies on the banks of the Yamuna
River believed to have been built at the sites of
ancient temples and shrines. Along with neighboring
towns Govardhan, Nandgaon and Vrindavan, the area
is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus. The town of
Govardhan
was later immortalized in the poems of Mirabai, a
princess who became an ardent devotee of Krishna.
A little away from Mathura is Govardhan, where
young Krishna lifted the Giriraj hillock and held
it on his fingertip for a week to protect the people
of Braj from storms and rains.
Every phase of Lord Krishna's early life is embedded
in realism in this region. Fact mixes with make-believe
and it's all there.

214 km northeast of Delhi, is at the base of the Shivalik
hills, where the Ganga, coming down from the mighty
Himalayas, meets the plains. Amongst the many pilgrimage
spots that are situated along the length of the holy
Ganga, Haridwar, perhaps, is the holiest in the land.

on three sides, Rishikesh is located on the right
bank of the Ganga, at its confluence with the Chandrabhaga

pilgrimages to the Himalayas, Rishikesh is, where
Raibhya Rishi did penance to please God, who appeared
as Hrishikesh, hence the name, Rishikesh. Millions
of Hindus come here every year, to absolve themselves
of their sins by bathing in the holy Ganges.

About
Khajuraho |
|
There is nothing
in this world that could compare with the erotic images
of Khajuraho. The sense of imagination have given
form to human emotions in the form of spiritual and
physical love. Every facade-wall, window, pillar,
and ceiling of Khajuraho is carved with figures of
mythical and historical origins, and while many of
these full-breasted, girdle-waisted women in forms
of innocent play, they depict carnal love. Spread
hrough the high forest plateaus of the region, these
temples were rediscovered only a few It was this isolation
and the encroachment by jungles that had led the temples
of Khajuraho to destruction. Khajuraho temple plans,
from the simplest to the most sublime, follow the
same pattern and all of them are elaborately carved.

KHAJURAHO TEMPLES - AN ENIGMA
IN STONE |
|
The temples of Khajuraho are one the
finest examples of the central Indian style of temple
architecture. Though these temples have gained popularity
because of their erotic carvings, they are reflective
of the traditional way of life of the Hindu society
in the medieval period. |
